Something I need to remember is that when I take care of myself, drink lots of water, get aerobic everyday, and eat better foods, my periods are less horrible. This month I feel like jumping off a cliff. My cramps are fierce, my head and back are throbbing, and I just want to be alone. But of course I have to suck it up because I have class tonight! But I will be okay. The point is that I need to take better care of me.

((((warm fuzzy hugs))))

I actually have been known to cancel class b/c of cramps. OK, it only happened once, and only two people had showed up and one of them was my accupuncturist and we did end up doing a little bit, but still... I think most women can relate!

So sorry, magensium and calcium are supposed to help a lot too. Supplements (while not the best solution) are something you can do even when you aren't able to do the other things. I've also played merry-go-round with birth control pills, I'm finally on Yasamine and it has made a huge difference. It may be worth it to try a different brand every few months to see if you notice a difference. (my doctor told me that non-generic tend to help the most) Hope it's over soon!

I don't take BC pills. My calcium intake is always very good, not sure about my magnesium.

Encora vitamins work pretty good and insurance covers them. Lots of women over 30 swear by them - regardless feel better! :)

You may want to think about BC pills of some kind. When I was in high school, I was missing at least two days a month, every month. The cramps were getting progressively worse, until one day in the summer, I vomited, seized, blacked out, and woke up on the floor covered in my own vomit. Mom took one look at me and said, "Birth control for you." If I take my pills properly *ie, every single night at about the same time* my periods are shorter, with lighter flow, and VERY managable pain. If I screw up taking the pills *ie, a pill one day, miss two days, take a pill, miss two days* my ass'll end up in the hospital.

If you are not certain if you want to take pills of any kind, you may want to think about an IUD. The IUD eventually lessens blood flow. Less blood flow, less cramps.

Talk to your doctor about what birth control options would be best for you. You don't need to suffer.

*hugs in complete understanding/sympathy. Offers chocolate, or maybe something dead and tasty*

I took them when I was younger. I hated the way they messed with my cycle, I haven't taken them for years and don't plan to start now, since I'm 42 and hoping to not have to deal with the issue that much longer! My cramps are because I have endometriosis.

*nods* that is understandable. In that case, double the hugs to you!
