jademermaid: (Neptune and fish)

I received absolutely no comments on my LJ Neptunalia invitation, which, to be honest, surprised me! It was really very nice last year, and promises to be even more cohesive this year, since I'm not all nervous over it this time around. I already am expecting some of the Nova Roma folks, but it would be nice to get some other people to come by - is there something putting you guys off?

I hope not, but if so, please let me know what concerns you have. You do not have to be Roman or even pagan to attend.

I spoke with Marina/ Laura a while back about getting involved with the clean water groups in Tennessee, and then didn't follow up on it, so this year I plan to get moving on that. After all, what better sacrifice to the god of oceans and fresh water than to really do something about it?

I plan to make this my goal for a while, and try to get other folks interested as well. We all have an impact on our groundwater, which feeds our streams and rivers, which flow into the oceans. I've waiting to hear back from a couple of places, but I hope to get into doing some activism, maybe I can actually make a difference. It all starts at home. I've called a septic tank service to see how much it costs to have mine looked at, something I haven't done at all since we bought the place! I'm also looking into something called a rain garden, though I'm not sure that will work for us since we live on a hill. I hate the idea of composting, but I think I need to at least give it a shot, and I need to also move toward recycling, since I've seen that we can do that at the dump, we just have to sort it ourselves.

I also prefer bottled water, because I think the city water tastes like chlorine and chalk. At the very least, I need to recycle those bottles, and maybe move toward buying gallon jugs instead of the small bottles. We have a filter for water in the fridge door, but I still thought it tasted weird. I'll try it again, maybe I can reuse the small bottles that way. I'll work on it.

So I guess those are my Neptunalia resolutions.

What can you do?

1. Never dump anything down a storm drain or drainage ditch.
2. Recycle motor oil and other vehicle fluids.
3. Throw litter in its place.
4. Clean up after your pet.
5. Check your vehicles for leaks (repair them!)
6. Reduce the amount of household hazardous wastes generated at home.
7. Compost yard clippings.
8. Use fertilizer and pesticide only when needed. (Read the label!)
9. If you wash your vehicle at home, do so on the lawn rather than on pavement.
10. Tell a friend or neighbor about how to prevent stormwater pollution and get involved in your community.

I would have put you up if you needed it, a few people are camping in the yard, so that's another option.

I'm stoked about PUF too!

Well, for me there was no point in asking since I am not going to be in town, but next year, if all goes well, I will be allllllll about camping on your doorstep and playing with your critters. :D
