This is a continuation of my earlier post, I had to stop and see Corey off to work (he was pissy because he had to go in to cover for someone else tonight), and then I went ahead and planted my beautiful black tulips (I really hope they bloom in the spring, I've never tried to grow tulips before), and then repotted a bunch of aloe brought to me by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] twisted_tulip. I wonder if she knows about tulips?

Anyway, I posted about my new bike and excercise before, and I wanted to say that I am going to start exercising again tomorrow. I know, I know, you are tired of reading that. Hell, I'm tired of typing it! Yet I feel that I have to keep at it anyway. So [livejournal.com profile] black_whiteboy, if you are reading this, do not come into the front room if you see a big red wallhanging there, it means I'm working out and I will die of embarrassment if you walk in on me!

I also hope to help [livejournal.com profile] mezzanotterose get a bike that she can fit Dom on, so we can go riding together at Cedars when it isn't freezing. I actually used to love to ride, but I admit that it has been a while, I hope my knees are okay with it. I would think they would like that better than walking, though. Plus, this bike is styled to use your body's energy more efficiently and comfortably, so I'm hoping to be able to do this and turn it into a constructive and fun hobby.

[livejournal.com profile] black_whiteboy took off for the weekend to give Corey and I some time alone, which was very thoughtful! Yesterday I had hoped to get some kinky fun in, but to be honest, neither of us was up to it really. We did have some fun in the morning, but then we just snuggled on the couch most of the day. I have been threatening him with all sorts of horrors lately, but yesterday was just not the right time. It was his birthday and all he really wanted was to hang around the house, and I wasn't feeling so great either. There's been sneezing and chills, so I may be getting a cold. I'm having tea with honey and lemon right now.

Money is still super tight--the money from class went to Corey's gas tank tonight, and my cash stash was used up on groceries. We are waiting on his Christmas bonus check so we can catch up his truck payment and fix the TV. We ended up with a ridiculous amount of overdraft fees last month, and I'd been doing pretty good up until then. As soon as I stop keeping a strict checkbook there's a disaster. This time I didn't get too worked up over it and I'm proud of myself for that at least-I've been consciously working on not getting angry and mean lately. I just juggled the bills as best I could and assured myself that we would deal with it, just like we have before. As long as we and the animals are fed and sheltered, we are ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned. This does mean that the Saturnalia party will be lean, but that's okay. We had already decided to keep it very small and work on simple handmade gifts instead of storebought ones. We may also go back to a similar menu as last year, too. I'm going to talk with Rose and Rhonda about that tomorrrow. I'm just not sure what the costs will be, but I'm hoping we can still make it fun for the kids and fun for us too.

Do I know about tulips? Ha! I was born in a tulipfield (well...I made that up). My mother has eaten tulipbulbs (in the hungerwinter '44-'45). I lived among tulipfields, have worked in the tulip-business, and miss the tulipfields very much. I have seen a movie about The Black Tulip, a long time ago (based on the book La Tulipe Noire - Alexander Dumas... had to read it in high school). It was about a man who had developed a black tulip in the 17th century (tulips were worth a fortune then and were seen as a symbol of power and richdom), and the bulb is stolen. He is accused of murder... and the thief claims to be the developer of the black tulip. The first one to have developed a black tulip will win about 100.000 dutch florins (in those days an amazing amount and today I still wouldn't spit on it - +/- $50.000). Eventually the original black tulip owner is set free by prince Willem van Oranje and everything turns out ok. THere are many releases of this story, and not all in dutch. I think I saw the one in French (with Alain Delon -yummy).
Tulips need a cold snap in order to tricker their growth. So you have to put them in the ground in fall. The smaller bulbs will grow big and get little bulbs; those you can pull off and replant until they will become bigger bulbs. The big bulbs are then sold to the public. I used to pull off the small bulbs and the old roots when I was working for tulip-farmers. A boring job, but you could talk with friends while doing it (and flirt with the guys who would dig the bulbs up in the fields). More fun was to make guirlandes of the tulipflowers (they are useless for the tulipfarmer) and sell them to people (tourists) to put on their car. So do I know about tulips? (smile)

Wow!

Well I guess you do know about tulips! I'm just sort of worried because I've never planted any before.

I bought a bike when I went back to school. I VERY much suggest many short trips. As in 1/4 mile or less.

I took off on mine and went to class on it. About 2.5 miles round trip. The first real bike riding in about 20 years and my knees and thighs hurt.... alot... for a week. That is really bad when you consider my legs were actually in pretty decent shape. About the only part of me that was.

Looks cool though. Enjoy it.
