I got one! They were going nuts by the feeder yesterday evening and this morning, but the little buggers are hard to get a shot of! I took about ten pictures, this is the only one where you can see one clearly. I will keep trying to get a better one, but I'm still pretty stoked!

Awesome!!!!

I didn't know the cicadas were out in Tennessee this year.

Cicadas will appear every year, some are just more prolific years than others. ;) The only exception would be the 17 year locust, which is in the Cicada family. Ah...more random bug trivia. lol

COOOOOOOOOOOOOL! Hummingbirds are awesome! Great shot!
I love cicadas too. My mom LOVES them. As a kid she used to love catching one and she would put them on her clothes and our clothes and say it was like a brouche... for good luck.

We thought our humming birds were never going to return this season (I live just southeast of Nashville myself). And now that we have three we bought a second feeder that we put at the front of the house (opposite the other one in the back off our patio) because they are so territorial that they keep dogfighting over the feeders.

However, I'm really just here because I'd like to re-join "show_your_bits" and it has you listed as one of the folks to contact.

Oh, and the last feeder be bought that does look similar to yours also has these little poles in front of each yellow "flower" and the hummingbirds have taken to perching/resting on them. Watching them preen and chill out is just a trip.

Thank you.

I am no longer handling moderations for show your bits, and trust me, you aren't missing much.

I didn't figure I was. My biggest thing is that there are two very old entries I'd put into the community that I wanted to delete for non-posterity's sake.

Oh well, sorry for the interruption.

Thanks.

You should have some luck contacting wellhungdude?

You seem an interesting person, I love your sketch on your user page, it reminds me of the exercises we had to do in drawing class where you look at what you are drawing and never lift your pencil from the papaer--I forget what they were called. Lovely photos as well. Do I know you on your real journal?

[identity profile] dearmaid.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks ~ you are very kind and I've not a clue what that's called (although ages and ages ago in HS I'm sure we had to do something like that).

I'm more just randomly developed in my drawing rather than trained per se.

We don't know each other. My "current" journal is [livejournal.com profile] bucheau, but I've been trying of late to get away from LJ (I've been addicted since 2000 or so) and haven't been writing for a few months.

If your icon here is your own art, consider me amazed.

I think that the cicada has a pretty green fire on his/her/its' back. :)
