So here I am, I've been up since 4:00 a.m., and I'm waiting for
mezzanotterose so that we can leave to drive to Knoxville. Today is the day I will be getting the Neptune part of my tattoo. I am somewhat nervous, and the three hours of sleep I've had have left me in a hazy, easygoing state, so I think I am less nervous than I would be normally. I know it is going to hurt quite a bit, but that bothers me less than I thought it would.

Sunday Rose and I are doing the Vestalia ritual, we moved it so that we could go right into the flamekeeping afterward without worrying about unattended flames. So for the next week we will be keeping a flame burning in honor of Vesta and her attendants. This is the third year we have done this, it just feels natural now. I baked a loaf of my honey bread to give as an offering yesterday.
Then it is getting the place ready for the Neptunalia. It has become a public ritual, which means more preparations, but on the other hand it means things have a solid goal. Corey and I hope to get the fenceline moved out this week, and I have to work on the area in the front of the door so that it looks presentable.
lots of work!

Date: 2006-06-13 04:47 pm (UTC)Dissolve 3 packets of yeast in a big bowl with three cups of very warm water. Add about a 1/3 cup of honey. Use a whisk to dissolve completely. Add about three cups of wheat flour and one cup of white, along with 5 teaspoons of salt, spread around in the bowl. Get this mixed up well and then add about three more cups of white flour. When you get it to the right consistency (this is the part that is hard to type up!) pour 5 tablespoons of oil over it and work it into the ball. Then cover the bowl (I use a dinner plate) and let it rise for about 45 minutes.
Grease two loaf pans and then gently knead the dough and separate it into two parts, one in each pan. Then cover the pans (I use saran wrap) and let those rise for about 30 minutes. Preheat the oven during the last ten minutes to 400 degrees.
Remove the wrap and put the pans in the oven. Bake for 3o minutes or so and remove. Turn out the hot loaves onto a cooling rack.
