jademermaid: (Vampire- Juicy)
I am a gamer girl from way back, if you didn't know. I played my first game of D&D (It was just D&D back then) in the very early eighties, when I was 15. I was managing a candle store, and my boss introduced me to the game (as well as a few other things like cocaine and naked pictures....but anyway!)and what I remember most was that I could not sleep afterward (see above) and I just kept thinking of what my character would do. It was like writing and acting at the same time and I loved it.

The next long term tabletop RPG game I was in was much later, in my twenties, and I played a meistersinger, a magic user class that I found very interesting. There's been several different games since then, all quite fun, though some situations led to real life drama with some people that were involved. That's just the nature of gaming I think. I actually met and got to know Corey because of a game, so it's got lots of hidden benefits too!

I usually played magic users or clerics (see nun fetish). There's only been one straight fighter that I've played, and that was online, a Roman gladiatrix inspired by a book that I borrowed/stole from [livejournal.com profile] amazon_mel. The people that I played with online were great, and I experienced the game through text, which meant that my imagination had to work overtime! We wrote some really great stuff during that time.

I have only participated in live action roleplay (LARP) once, during Dragon Con, I played an NPC in one of the games, an elderly Italian newspaper vendor. I loved that, I just pretended I was my late grandfather, and doubled the crankiness.

Some friends of mine are into a Vampire LARP, and I've been strongly hinting for a while that I wanted to go, but because I live so far out, it wasn't really possible. Well last night I got to go to a game down the street, and I was thrilled! I wasn't too sure what to expect. But it was an excuse to dress like a freak, which I love to do, so that was the first order of business. It was a Yule party in the game, so holiday colors were encouraged, and I remembered that I had a bodice top given to me by [livejournal.com profile] maysun that would be perfect. It was really a bit too short, but I decided to make the best of it and focus on my enormous red boots' debut in the world. Man, these boots make me feel like a queen!

I also finally got to wear my pretty purple contacts somewhere. This is the first time I've worn contacts of any kind, so it was a big deal for me. They were a little uncomfortable, but it actually got easier to deal with as the night went on. Until I got a little tired, anyway.

The game was a bit confusing at first. The new version is a bit different, but then some things are exactly the same. Then there were lots of things I completely forgot. But the group was very patient with me and my simple ways. My character was sort of thrown together and I'm still figuring her out, but I think I want her to be a bit more outgoing in the future. I felt kind of like a stripper in those big red boots, so I went with that for the game. A lot of my time was spent taking it all in, watching the political stuff-we never did much of that aspect of the game online. I had no idea how to act in certain situations, but I think that probably worked in my favor, since my character is lacking social graces anyway.

So, we'll see what happens. I'd really like to do it again.
