I woke up this morning with my knee in a crunchy state similar to potato chips, so I couldn't really dance too much at the workshop. I ended up taking only the choreography section and even that I took notes through most of. I love the choreography, and we can do it while Jawahir plays Yesilim, which would be lots of fun! and Melinda were there, and I think between them and my notes we can get the whole thing working.

The show rocked, Ariel was even in town from New York, and she blew us all away. I met some new performers and asked them to come to the next hafla, they seemed interested, so we will see. It was great to see everyone--Xenia, [livejournal.com profile] thespisis, Anderia... I only get to see them at haflas and workshops, and they are a wonderful group of ladies.

I really had a great time!

I bought a pretty skirt and ate THE MOST GINORMOUS SALAD IN THE WORLD.

Neptunalia

So, the next celebration we will be having is the Neptunalia, on July 21st/22nd. The day will probably be quite hot, I am hoping to be able to afford one of those rubber pools again to keep cool. We will have sunshades and lots of spring water and wine. This year I want to make some cool seafood dishes, cocktail shrimp, caponata, salmon salad--maybe even sushi or gefilte fish! I wonder if I should make it potluck, and have everyone bring a seafood or veggie dish? That would really take a lot of the pressure and cost off of me.

I want to say a prayer for my horses this year, and write a new ritual without being nervous over people I shouldn't be nervous over anyway. I'll need another horse shaped offering to sacrifice, and I'm hoping this year to make it myself. I can tie in some nice herbs and even work in some resin incense.

If you are thinking of coming, there is the option of camping overnight, just let me know you are planning on staying over so I can buy enough eggs and bread for breakfast! If you would like to be a part of this year's Neptunalia, you can comment here or email me--I consider it a part of my calling to make this as public and well attended an event as my place will allow. You do not have to be Roman, just Roman interested/tolerant/curious! You do not have to wear Roman clothing, but if you have rudimentary sewing skills, a chiton or tunic is about the coolest and most comfortable thing you will ever wear!

Some Roman instructions for wrapping and making simple garb

If you have a sari that is light and comfortable, that would certainly fit in as well. But again, if you just can't do the garb thing, don't let that stop you from coming!

I've read the first three and enjoyed them, maybe I should take another look at them. HBO will air True Blood sometime near the end of the year, a series based on the Southern Vampire books by Charlene Harris. The story is set in Louisiana, and centers around Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress that can read minds. The books are fun and engaging, and maybe HBO has a chance of keeping my business after all.

Of course, if the series is any good at all, those jerks will cancel it after two seasons.
