Today Corey and I went with [livejournal.com profile] dement1a to the IMAX to see 300.

I've never been in an IMAX before, and I figured this was a good movie to pop my cherry on. It was a really cool movie, and followed the story pretty closely as far as what I've read about it historically, they just added lots of fantasy costuming and grotesque characters. They went a bit too far with the Persian royalty, though I admit that I loved the visuals of all that gold on dark skin.

Skin, OMG, skin. I commented to Corey that there wasn't a body hair anywhere and he agreed. I ended up trying to find one, but everyone who had their chest or legs showing was waxed to eggshell smoothness. Whenever I mention that I like a little hair, most of my friends say they prefer the smooth look. Well I like a bit of crunchy hair to tug on. Granted, my husband does not have much chest hair, but he's got the legs of a furry satyr and I love that! Ah well, there's someone for everyone, right?

The movie was really beautiful visually, they turned blood spatters into an art, and the hacking of limbs into music. The IMAX resolution made everyone look like they'd been put through a clarification filter on a graphics program, heightened to a razorsharp graininess. It may have been the look of the movie, to have that hard edge effect, but it was sort of like a moving digital painting for me.

IMAX is loud! I always have to turn the TV up because my hearing is so crappy, but this was making my eyeballs vibrate. Also, the screen was so big and close that I simply couldn't sit in the regular section, I had to get up and move to the balcony seating. I don't see how anyone could sit in the closer seats, and I don't know why they bother putting them in.

Afterward, I bought a couple of books and a mermaid t-shirt in the mall.

I'm looking forward to understanding a lot more of what I'm looking at in the aisles of Apna and Shubha's! So often I wish [livejournal.com profile] madrun were there so I could ask her, "What's this?"! I've not sat down to really look through it, but it will definitely add to my knowledge, since I only know the very basic Indian dishes and ingredients.

This one is apparently a little Americanized, but the recipes look really tasty and I'm looking forward to trying them. It has gotten good reviews from Americans and mediocre ones from Iranians, because it leaves out the more difficult to find ingredients. I figure I'll try these recipes and see if I like them, and then if I feel the need to delve deeper, I will.

My mom went to school with a woman named Suhaila who was Persian and I really liked her, but never realized how beautiful Farsi is until I heard it last week in a doctor's office. Rose and I were there so she could get her shot, and I was sitting in the waiting room and I heard these two gentlemen speaking in the most beautiful, melodic tones. I wanted to listen to them all day. I ended up going up and chatting with the woman they were with later on, and we all yapped for a little while until Domonic got cagey and I took him outside. Anyway, when I saw the book, I figured I'd see how I felt about the food. It looks very similar to the other Mediterraenean books I have, but with more sweetness to the sauces. It should be fun.

It's a quarter after five and I'm still awake. Maybe it's time to go play a video game for a while. Good morning to anyone who made it through my post, I'm not sure where all this blabber came from.
